EU means Energy Unit and is the unit for any energy-using machine. These Energy Units represent electricity within the game.

Industrial Craft has several types of generators that produce EUs, while the various machines use them.

EUs are in no way related to Redstone power.

EU/t[edit]

EU is measured in EU/t which means EU per tick.

It describes the amount of EU that flows trough a cable or trough EU consumers and emitters.

EU/t can be measured with an EC-Meter.

EU Packet / Voltage[edit]

EU Packets are the container of EUs. They represent voltage in IndustrialCraft.

EU Packets come in different sizes ranging from 1 EU to 2048 EU.

EU Packets may contain less EU. An 32 EU Packet may only contain 5 EU.

There is no way to measure what size of packets travels trough a cable or machine but they can be read from EU emitting blocks.

Emitters like generators, storage units and transformers can emit EU Packets.

Emiters[edit]

  • Generators emit packets as big as their output is.
  • Storage Units always emit packets the size of their "out" value. They also serve as Transformers by always emitting a set EU Packet size.
  • Transformers behave like Storage Units. They additionally have the ability to convert EU Packets into other EU Packets up and down.

Cables[edit]

Cables can carry unlimited amounts of EU/t but only EU Packets that are the same or below of their maximum Voltage. You can send unlimited amounts of 32 EU Packets trough a Copper cable but not a single 128 EU Packet. The clue is that energy loss of a cable isn't connected to the total amount of EU/t but to every single packet. So sending 100 32 EU Packets results in 100 times the energy loss of the cable where sending one 2048 EU Packets only result in one time the energy loss of the cable. More on that in cables.

Packet Sizes[edit]
