The Electric Sorting Machine is an EU-powered machine that filters and automatically exports items placed into it.
Recipe[edit]
Uses[edit]
The sorting machine is a powerful tool, combining the functionality of multiple Ejector Upgrades and item filtering into a single block. It can even be used to manage an entire ore processing chain once configured, turning raw ore into finished products without any additional input other than the EU necessary to keep it running (20 EU per item moved).
The sorting machine's GUI is shown to the left.
- The letters in the first column correspond to the letters seen on the outside of the block: down, up, north, south, west, and east. (The block always has the same orientation, regardless of what direction it's placed from.)
- The next column is either a D for default route (only one of the six faces can be the default), or whitelist.
- The next column with chest icons indicates whether the side is facing a valid inventory (normal icon) or not (icon with red frame and slash).
- The remaining columns are for filtering items (items are copied to the filter, not stored).
Beneath the columns is the sorting machine's inventory, a row of 11 slots, into which items can be manually placed to observe the effects of the filters. The three upgrade slots (only Transformer Upgrades are compatible) and energy item slot are in the lower right, to the right of the player inventory.
Filtering items is relatively simple; right-click with an item to place one into the filter (or increase the existing count by one), or left-click to place a stack equal to what you're holding. If an item matches one of the filters, say for example Tiny Pile of Copper Dust that you want to send to a
Compressor, but you have 9 items in the filter's stack, no items will be ejected until there is a stack of that size (remaining in the sorting machine's inventory instead). This means that you won't end up with three or four tiny dust in the machine holding up operations.
Anything that enters the sorting machine's inventory will first be checked against the existing filters for the whitelisted routes. If it matches, it will either be sent there or, if under the required stack size, remain in the sorting machine's inventory. If it does not match a whitelist filter, it will be checked against the default route. The default route's filter is a blacklist; anything in here will not be ejected to the default route, but will remain in the sorting machine's inventory until it is removed or the filter is changed.
As a caveat, the sorting machine can only eject items; it cannot pull them from other inventories. Thus, if you intend for a more advanced setup where items are pushed to machines for processing and their products are pushed right back into the sorting machine for further filtering, make sure each machine is also equipped with an Ejector Upgrade as well.
