Unlike Real Life™, there is no actual "voltage" in IC². EU travels in "packets" through wires with near-infinite speed and has smart pathfinding (somewhat like RP2 pneumatic tubes). Packets are measured in size (in EU/p) and volume (EU). (Size being the amount of energy it contains as it leaves a storage unit, volume being how much energy is left in each packet after inefficient cable usage).
A HVT (or High Voltage Transformer) operates in two different ways.
- If redstone power is not applied, it consumes 2048 EU in any packet size and converts them into up to four 512 EU/p. All conversions are limited to one per tick. (Converting 2048 EU into 4x512 EU is considered one conversion.)
- If redstone power is applied, it consumes 2048 EU in any packet size and converts them into one 2048 EU/p. All conversions are limited to one per tick.
Converting to HV[edit]
In order to convert to HV, you must point the input cable (any "voltage") to the 3-dotted side and then link any number of output cables from the 1-dotted side. Remember to use input cables that can withstand the packets you are sending in and HV Cable or Glass Fibre Cable for the output.
Converting to EV[edit]
In order to convert to HV, you must apply redstone power through a lever, a repeater or a redstone wire, point the input cables (any "voltage") to any 1-dotted side and then link the output cable from the 3-dotted side. Remember to use input cables that can withstand the packets you are sending in and HV Cable for the output.

Other usages[edit]
Multiple HVT may be directly installed on a Nuclear Reactor if the reactor outputs more than 2048 EU/t as conventional wires (HV cables) cannot handle packet sizes over 2048 EU/p.
