The Pump can be used on its own or be placed next to a {{Gin|Miner}} to pump water and lava encountered while mining.
A pump used on its own will suck up liquid directly below itself; this is probably not useful for lava, but can be useful for water since it respawns under the right conditions.
Once a liquid has been sucked up, it can be pumped out directly to an adjacent machine or [[Pipe]] using the {{Gin|Fluid Ejector Upgrade}} or will fill an empty bucket, a {{Gin|Universal Fluid Cell}} placed in the Pump's top item slot.
Once the liquid has been sucked up, the pump will fill either an empty bucket or an [[Empty Cell|empty cell]] placed in the pump's item slot or in an adjacent chest.
The newly-filled item will be placed into an adjacent chest; if no chest is available, the item will be ejected into the world.

''Cells or buckets are not required'' to use the Pump because it has an internal storage.

'''Note:'''
The Pump can pump from the direction that the "grate" texture is facing. Use a wrench to change the position of the grate.
As of v1.337 a pump with a infinite water source under it and a compressor placed directly next to it will pump and compress water into snowballs without the need for cells.

In v1.64, this feature is bugged, when the compressor finishes, it crashes the Minecraft client. To prevent this, place an empty cell into the compressor as a 'decoy.' (Needs confirmation)

The Pump is a tier 1 machine capable of pumping liquids into an Universal Fluid Cell.

The Pump can be used on its own or be placed next to a Grid Miner.png Miner to pump water and lava encountered while mining. Once a liquid has been sucked up, it can be pumped out directly to an adjacent machine or Pipe using the Grid Fluid Ejector Upgrade.png Fluid Ejector Upgrade or will fill an empty bucket, a Grid Universal Fluid Cell.png Universal Fluid Cell placed in the Pump's top item slot.

Cells or buckets are not required to use the Pump because it has an internal storage.

The Pump can pump from the direction that the "grate" texture is facing. Use a wrench to change the position of the grate.

Before build 538, Geothermal Generators supplied with lava from pumps gain a 50% EU boost, at the cost of 200 EU for the pump. All you need to do is to place an Empty Cell on the top slot of the pump. The pump is also no longer limited to the block just beneath it, and can pull distant liquids.

Also removed in build 538 is the pump's ability to automatically supply an adjacent compressor with water to make snowballs. This functionality is bugged in IC² 1.64
