Construction Foam (CF) is a quick and effective construction material for defending against mobs.
Players are able to break the foam before it hardens in no time. However, broken foam cannot be harvested.

After it's placed, it will eventually turn into a solid CF Wall, which is explosion resistant and paintable.
With an explosion resistance of 60, it will resist TNT, ITNT, and Creepers, but Reinforced Stone is a better choice for protecting against things like nuclear reactor explosions and lasers.

Wall blocks harden at varying rates. Foam hardens at 0.6% per 25 seconds, per light level. Foam placed in total darkness will never solidify.
Right-clicking on foam with a block of sand will cause the foam to harden instantly, but the block of sand will be consumed in the process.

Players, mobs, and animals can walk through foam until it fully hardens (although the risk of suffocation or getting stuck in a new wall is high).

As of 1.70, CF can cover & harden around a placed cable, creating a block that functions as a cable but looks like a CF wall. When a "CF-cable" block is destroyed, it drops the cable it was created with.

You can spray CF with the CF Sprayer too. Place Construction Foam in a Compressor to create CF Pellets. Load the CF Pellets into the CF Sprayer and you're good to go. The sprayer's capacity can be increased with the use of a CFPack.

Currently a single pellet will place a glob of 13 blocks of foam. Using scaffolding will allow you to arrange those 13 blocks into desired shapes, the most common being a straight line. See the CF Sprayer page for more details.
There is no need to insulate glass fiber cable as it will not shock you. It also has the same energy loss as tin cable so it's best to use it when ever you can afford to, even on lower voltages.
* The cheaper recipe for the cable requires any silver, a resource added by Metallurgy, Thermal Expansion, Redpower, Factorization and other mods.

Tin cables can only tolerate up to 5 EU per packet, but they are very cheap to make and have extremely low energy loss. This makes them the ideal cable for solar flowers, since each produce a current equal to 1 EU/t.

This wire cannot be insulated, so it cannot be painted. This cable is also prone to electrocuting nearby objects, so be careful, even if the supported current is too low.

Note the difference between EU/p and EU/t. If you connect 40 solar panels to a length of tin cable, the cable would still not burn out - the cable will transport 40 1-EU packets, not one 40-EU packet. In theory one can therefore connect an unlimited number of solar panels to a single Tin Cable. You will still lose 1EU per 40 blocks, but in a large Solar panel array this will mean close to nothing. 79 blocks of tin wire can connect 239 Solar panels (79 on the top and both sides, plus one on each end), and if you tap the wire on the bottom of one side, only 1EU will be lost in the cable.
In theory, 40 packets of 1 EU/t = 40 losses after the 39th cable.
Application
Because of their low-ish energy loss and a solar panels low energy output, People tend to make their solar "flowers" using tin cable instead of copper. If you have the compact solars or advanced solars addons then you will need to use copper or sometimes higher.
