Uranium physics in 1.106+
Used variables:
*n: Nearby uranium cells (by "nearby" I mean one slot horizontally or vertically)
*p: Amount of pulses this reactor tick
*h: Heat produced this reactor tick
*e: Energy produced this reactor tick
*c: Amount of cells in this item

A uranium cell will always pulse once plus the amount of cells that are directly adjacent (and contain uranium):
*p = 1 + n

Addition: To compensate dual and quad cells you should use:
*p = 1 + floor(c / 2) + n

A uranium cell will always create heat and energy based on how often it ticks per reactor tick:
*h = 2 * p * (p + 1)
*e = 5 * p

Addition: To compensate dual and quad cells you should use:
Coolant physics in 1.106+
As uranium reactions produce heat and coolant is what you need to not let your reactor melt. In order to do so you can use one of these:
*The coolant cell. There are 3 types of coolant cells which can store up to 10K, 30K or 60K heat and you can get that heat out again. Be careful tough, as it will break when being heated beyond the max heat value.
*The condensator. There are 2 types of the condensator, the RSH (20K) and the LZH (100K). They are pretty much coolant cells but can store more heat, will not break when reaching their heat cap but you can still get the heat out again.
Additionally you can "repair" them using redstone (and lapis for the LZH). Redstone fills up a RSH by 10K a LZH by 5K and lapis fills a LZH by 40K.
*If you want to heat the reactor instead, you can use a heating cell. They stack to 64 and heat every adjacent component by stack size until it reaches stack size * 1000.

Heat switch physics in 1.106+
Heat switches distribute the heat of themselves, the reactor and the nearby components, until they all have the same heat compared to their respective max heat.

Used Variables:
*Tm: max heat
*Ts: side heat transfer rate
*Tr: reactor heat transfer rate

There are 4 types of heat switches or heat exchangers:
*The (normal) heat exchanger.
**Tm = 2500
**Ts = 12
**Tr = 4

*The advanced heat exchanger, which is just the upgraded version of the normal one.
**Tm = 10000
**Ts = 24
**Tr = 8

*The component heat exchanger, it only transfers heat between the reactor and itself.
**Tm = 5000
**Ts = 36
**Tr = 0

*The reactor heat exchanger, it only transfers heat between nearby components and itself.
Heat vent physics in 1.106+
Heat vents are basically heat switches that additionally cool themselves down. They will however not take it from components themselves. You have to give it to them using other elements. There are 5 types of heat vents that are similar to the heat switches except for the overclocked one as it is new:
Used Variables:
*Tm: max heat
*Tr: reactor heat transfer rate
*Tc: the self cooling rate

The types of switches are as follows:
*The (basic) heat vent that only vents heat it has stored.
**Tm = 1000
**Tr = 0
**Tc = 6

*The advanced heat vent which is again a better version of the basic one.
**Tm = 1000
**Tr = 0
**Tc = 12

*The overclocked heat vent which is the fastest but also gets destroyed pretty fast if it always finds heat.
**Tm = 1000
**Tr = 36
**Tc = 20

*The reactor heat vent takes the heat only out of the reactor again.
**Tm = 1000
**Tr = 5
**Tc = 5

*The component heat vent takes the heat only out of components again.
**Special case: it removes 4 heat from every nearby component each tick and can not store heat.

Coolant physics in 1.106+
There are 2 types of coolant capacitors:
*The coolant cell. There are 3 types of it which can store up to 10K, 30K or 60K heat and you can get that heat out again.

Starwave: updated Step 2 to use the new recipes

Nuclear Physics 101
Welcome, to the Industrial Craft School of Nuclear-arity!
Here, we shall give some tips and tricks to avoid turning your new home into a melting slag heap!

Step 1: Finding Uranium Ore
There is no easy way to find Uranium Ore short of mining, mining, mining. It appears randomly in very small veins, and has been seen on the surface at sea level. It also appears rarely in the walls of caverns. It must be mined with an Iron or better Pickaxe, and will drop 1× Uranium when successfully mined.

Step 2: My First Reactor(tm)
The Chernobyl-2 Nuclear Reactor is expensive to build, relying as it does on hard-to-obtain elements like Glowstone and Copper Plates. Don't expect to build one in your first week.

If you think you've got the stocks make one, then let's do it!
Advanced materials you will need:

1 Advanced Circuit

1 Generator

3 Reactor Chambers

Wait... what? Reactor chambers? What on Earth?
It's the core of the nuclear reactor, containing all your precious reactor components and fuel.
Well, hopefully containing it... more on that later.

First you'll need 12 Copper Plates for the Reactor Chambers:

*Note: You have to Compress 8 Copper at once.

You can then use these to build your 3 Reactor Chambers:

Almost there!

Using the Generator, Advanced Circuit, and your new Reactor Chambers, craft the wonder that is the Chernobyl-2 Nuclear Reactor:

Congratulations! World Domination is a step closer to reality!

Step 3: Finding Your 3-Mile Island
Siting your Nuclear Reactor is crucial! Proximity and Containment is key here.

These two considerations are interdependent- heavily shielding a reactor with carefully placed Reinforced Stone means it can be safely sited quite close to your precious mansion/fortress/hobbithole; whereas an unshielded reactor should be sited far, far away from anything and everything you hold dear.

Step 4: Heavy Water
Cooling is absolutely vital.
Placing your reactor at the centre of a 3x3 cube of water is considered the very minimum in cooling requirements. Still and flowing water have the same cooling effect. Additional Reactor Chambers, Cooling Cells and Integrated Heat Dispensers will all have a positive effect on cooling. See the Nuclear Reactor page for a complete breakdown of heating and cooling in nuclear systems.

Step 5: The Green Glow
At this point, you should have a complete reactor, ideally situated inside a reinforced stone tank of water. No time for congratulations, though... we need fuel for the beast! Raw Uranium ore simply will not do, so it's time for:

Step 6: Cells of Plenty
So, how to we process Uranium, you ask? Easy!
You have to Compress it into shiny new Uranium Fuel Ingots:

Then shove those ingots into an Empty Cell to make a Uranium Cell!

These are suitable for use in the Chernobyl-2 Reactor, each capable of outputting incredible amounts of power!

Step 7: The Soothing Hum of Power
Reactors are capable of outputting considerable power: each Uranium Cell will output 10 EU/tick, meaning that high-output Reactors need high-level infrastructure to avoid machinery damage: HV_Transformers, MFS Units and Glass Fibre Cables are a common sight in a nuclear installation. Uranium Cells also have a considerable lifespan: each can produce between 2,000,000 to 10,000,000 EU!

Step 8: Holy Fukushima! (with apologies to the easily offended!)
If the proper precautions are taken, a Nuclear plant is as safe as a solar panel.

When things do go wrong though - they go wrong in spectacular fashion. The resultant blast of an overheated reactor will level everything in a ~30 block radius that isn't Reinforced or Obsidian. Thankfully a Reinforced Door still provides protection even when open, but be careful of siting anything in line with the power cable output from the containment vessel, as this is the one weak point in any nuclear plant.

Further Reading
Nuclear reactors are very valuable, have enormous energy-producing potential, and without a doubt have a steep learning curve.

A complete breakdown of how each reactor component works is available on the IC2 forum Here, or on the Nuclear Reactor page of the wiki.
The Reactor Chamber has 2 main uses: it can be used to craft a Nuclear Reactor, and it can be attached to one. Doing so will increase the available space in the reactor by 1 column and increase the reactor's maximum heat tolerance by 1000. Up to 6 Reactor Chambers can be attached to a Nuclear Reactor, increasing space available by 36 tiles in total. As well, Reactor Chambers provide additional cooling for the reactor they are attached to, -2 heat/tick.
