The Canning Machine puts food into Tin Cans, which, can be stacked up to 64. It also is used to refill Fuel Cans and Jetpacks.

To start canning, put the food you want to can in the upper slot and the cans in the lower slot and supply power, either by cable or with a battery in the left slot.

Different foods fill a different number of cans, depending on the type of food. The Item List details the different amounts of cans generated for each type of food. Canned food can be stacked, regardless of what food was used to create it, allowing you to stack different food types and save valuable inventory space. Canning "bad" food, like rotten meat, now creates a different type of food can with the subtext "this looks bad". These cans will give the hunger debuff when eaten.

Note: if you're using BuildCraft Pipes there is a bug in IC2 1.337b where the output sides of the canning machine are reversed. So if you want to attach a pipe to extract filled cans you need to attach it to the left side of the machine.

Please note the above GUI is not correct. There is another Slot for an energy source.

Canned Food is eaten by right clicking on the filled can while holding it, like normal food.

Canning Machines are also used to fill Fuel Cans with fuel cells. Six fuel cells or biofuel ones are required to completely fill an empty fuel can.

Food
Each can of food restores 1 point on the hunger meter. It also adds 3.2 points to your saturation bar. (A second hunger bar that has no limit and will be depleted before your standard hunger bar).

Eating a can of food does not consume the can; instead, it is returned to your inventory, or, if your inventory is full, dropped onto the ground.

Processing food into canned food makes it bland, all bonuses and poisons are neutralized in the canning process, alway can your zombie flesh and spider eyes before consuming.
Weren't you ever peacefully exploring the vast landscape and got suddenly attacked by hordes of suddenly appearing, highly dangerous monsters?

Sure, with the right equipment, especially if you are using our precious technology, you can fend these beast off. But somewhen, you get hungry, and what then?

For long travels, you will need abnormous amounts of food. And as everyone knows, food takes up quite a lot of space in every backpack.

Tin Cans can make your life much easier...

if combined with the Unmobile Food Canning Machine GTA4!

This device is capable of splitting ANY kind of sourve into it's basic components and mixing them up to a healthy, yet tasty mash.

As well, it can fill this mash with an amazing speed into tin cans and seal them up for unlimited expiry dates!

I notice that it mentions interfacing with the BuildCraft pump... but not the pump you can make with IC2. I'm new to IC2, so maybe I'm just not getting it: if I put three machines touching like so:

OVscanner
v empty cells
v v
MINER-PUMP-GEOTHERMAL
v
v
lava

and run a wire around from the Geothermal Generator back to the other two, will it end up self-powering (when it finds lava) or just sit there (after the initial charge runs out)?

This is assuming I'm not using BuildCraft (I have no clue if the modpack I'm playing with has BuildCraft installed or not), just IC2. Gatherer818 02:36, 17 May 2012 (CEST)
(Sorry for multiple edits, it seems to hate me - it keeps messing with the formatting. Teaching me to use the preview the hard way, lol.) Gatherer818 02:39, 17 May 2012 (CEST)
This generator seems to have a major bug.
I am running technic pack v 7.2.6 .

short story:

My geothermal isn't working and I don't know why. Yes I checked the wires and made sure lava was in it. Yes I tried my best to reset the thing (removed and replaced the thing AND reloaded the world). That didn't help.

longer, more detailed, perhaps a bit runon sentence-ey story:

I had a geo generator running off of lava pumped in by buildcraft pipes. It was wired to a MFE's back (the side opposite the output), at which point the wire Ts off and goes to my solar panels (regular 1EU/t panels, not the compact solar arrays found in techinc). The MFE was wired directly to a T intersection, one side going to my mass fab and the other to a LV transformer. When my stuff was arranged like this, the generator was working.
After turning off the lava supply to my generator, I added an MFSU between the mass fab and the MFE. I then decided I wanted to split the wire from the generator so it powered the MFSU directly rather than draining my MFE. I rearranged the wires so that the wire from my solar panals would power the MFSU and the MFE would be independent of the MFSU. After making sure this was all in order (all wires connected that should be and vice versa), I turned the lava supply back on. The generator filled but did NOT start running. I tried applying a redstone signal, removing the same, trying to make sure it wasn't just a one time bug (that is, I removed the geo and put it back), etc. I still do not know what is going on. A few things I do know is that all the wires are connected how I intend them to be, all the pipes are connected, the generator has lava in it, and the electric has a storage unit to go to, I've tried completely logging out of minecraft before saving this talk page topic, and my geothermal generator isn't running. If anyone has any suggestions (other than trying a different spot with my generator, which I'm about to do) PLEASE tell me

Macks2010 01:35, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

I can add now that moving it didn't solve the problem. Also, when I give it lava, the front BLINKS ON THEN TURNS OFF as if it ran out of lava in 1 tick... so it is turning on but why isn't it staying on? This is going to "put a damper on" my plan to have a quantum suit (or even enough iridium for ONE piece) any time soon....
the energy storage description was inaccurate, only mentioning the internal lava reservoir, the fuel queue can hold another stack of 64 lava cells, the previous description understated the unattended capacity by nearly a factor of 4, the geo generator can put out 1,760,000 EU before it needs attention

Geothermal generators use the heat of Lava to generate electricity. With the release of IC², the generators accept both Lava Buckets and Lava Cells. The latter are stackable and thus require less maintenance, but cost Tin to produce.
Usage
As with all Generators, the lava-based fuel of choice is inserted into the lower slot, and optionally an RE Battery in the upper slot. The Geothermal Generator will charge the battery or output power at a rate of 20 EU/t.

A single Geothermal Generator can store 24 units of lava internally and another stack of 64 lava cells will wait in the fuel queue until needed or removed by player - thus, inserting a full stack of Lava Cells will instantly use up 24 of them and fill out the lava gauge. Unlike the furnace, the Geothermal Generator does not consume the bucket when a lava bucket is used as fuel. It is returned to your inventory.
Additional Usages
If you have the BuildCraft mod installed, you can generate near infinite of power. Simply connect one (or more) of these magical machines to a BuildCraft Pump pumping from a lava lake in the Nether.

INFINITE* POWER!

If you have Eloraam's RedPower installed, lava can also be pumped from a RedPower volcano** into the generator.

* Not responsible for limitations due to laws of physics.
** Not quite as "infinite" as the Nether.

Tip
Using the Geothermal Generator with a connection to a Pump will provide an output of 30,000 EU instead of 20,000. For it to work properly, the Pump has to be above a lava source tile, and the Geothermal Generator needs to touching the Pump.

Additionally, an Empty Cell needs to be placed into the top of the pump (for unknown reason), and the initial powering of the pump can be done by placing 1 Redstone in the bottom slot of the Pump.

Note: Though it gives an increased EU (30,000), there is still a 200 EU per operation cost for the pump. The Geothermal Generator will charge the adjacent pump, for a total output of 29,800 EU per lava source tile.

Powerconverters-Mod
With the Powerconverters-Mod, steam engines can burn lava buckets and transfer the power through an engine generator. The engine generators are expensive, and buckets of lava are complicated to deal with, but it would produce 50,000 EU per lava bucket as opposed to 20,000 EU.
