Nuclear Reactors run on Fuel Rods. The Fuel Rod (Uranium) , or Uranium Fuel Rod, is the most basic of all Fuel Rods. Use caution when handling: they are radioactive.

Recipe
A Canning Machine will use an appropriate amount of Gibbl to vacuum-seal the Empty Fuel Rod.
|battery=RE Battery (Charged)
}}

Uses
Electric Reactor
The primary use of a Uranium Fuel Rod is to sit in a Nuclear Reactor. Uranium Fuel Rods will have a durability of 10,000 (they last 20,000 seconds). By default, a Uranium Fuel Rod will produce at least 1,000,000 EU over its 20,000 second lifetime. Once every two seconds, the reactor does two passes on all its components. The first pass is for heat, the second for EU. On both passes, the Uranium Fuel Rod starts with one pulse. Usage of the word "heat" in this section is distinct from Heat.

Heat Pass
For each adjacent component, the uranium rod gets 1 extra pulse.
The heat to be generated is calculated by the following formula:

heat/second =
n(n+1)/2
× 4; where n is the number of adjacent components which send neutron pulses

The Uranium Fuel Rod will attempt to distribute heat evenly to adjacent heat-accepting components. The order of distribution is left, right, down, up. The amount distributed to each heat-accepting component is the remaining heat divided by the remaining components rounded down, and this same amount is subtracted from the Fuel Rod's heat. There are cases where the component sends heat back to the Fuel Rod (such as the leftover heat when a vent breaks), and this does affect how much heat is sent to remaining components. Any remaining heat after distribution is sent to the reactor hull.

Finally the Fuel Rod will take 1 damage. It will only become a Depleted Uranium Fuel Rod on the EU pass.

EU Pass
1 EU is added to the reactor's output value. An additional 1 EU is added for each adjacent component which interacts with Neutron Pulses. Remember, the reactor will modify its output value when the energynet asks for the final EU output at the end of each tick (by default it is multiplied by 5).

Finally, if the item damage value is 19999 or less, it will turn into a Depleted Uranium Fuel Rod. Item damage is only taken during the heat pass.

Plutonium 239 is a highly dangerous radioactive element, that can't be found in the nature, but can be synthesized in nuclear reactor from Uranium 238.
Plutonium from the experimental versions of IC2 comes from centrifuging depleted cells of Uranium or MOX Nuclear Fuel. These depleted cells can no longer be used for breeding purposes and are dropped 100% of the time when a cell becomes depleted.
Plutonium is a great source of energy and is used in the creation of MOX fuel rods and Pellets of RTG Fuel.
The Uranium Cell is the main component of nuclear fission in a Nuclear Reactor. Every Uranium Cell has the potential to produce enormous amounts of energy, between 2-10 million EU. However, during the process of fission, the Cell generates excessive amounts of heat, which must be eliminated by the use of different cooling elements.
Coolant physics in 1.106+
As uranium reactions produce heat and coolant is what you need to not let your reactor melt. In order to do so you can use one of these:
*The coolant cell. There are 3 types of coolant cells which can store up to 10K, 30K or 60K heat and you can get that heat out again. Be careful tough, as it will break when being heated beyond the max heat value.
*The condensator. There are 2 types of the condensator, the RSH (20K) and the LZH (100K). They are pretty much coolant cells but can store more heat, will not break when reaching their heat cap but you can still get the heat out again.
Additionally you can "repair" them using redstone (and lapis for the LZH). Redstone fills up a RSH by 10K a LZH by 5K and lapis fills a LZH by 40K.
*If you want to heat the reactor instead, you can use a heating cell. They stack to 64 and heat every adjacent component by stack size until it reaches stack size * 1000.

Heat switch physics in 1.106+
Heat switches distribute the heat of themselves, the reactor and the nearby components, until they all have the same heat compared to their respective max heat.

Used Variables:
*Tm: max heat
*Ts: side heat transfer rate
*Tr: reactor heat transfer rate

There are 4 types of heat switches or heat exchangers:
*The (normal) heat exchanger.
**Tm = 2500
**Ts = 12
**Tr = 4

*The advanced heat exchanger, which is just the upgraded version of the normal one.
**Tm = 10000
**Ts = 24
**Tr = 8

*The component heat exchanger, it only transfers heat between nearby components and itself.
**Tm = 5000
**Ts = 36
**Tr = 0

*The reactor heat exchanger, it only transfers heat between the reactor and itself.
**Tm = 5000
**Ts = 0
**Tr = 72

Heat vent physics in 1.106+
Heat vents are basically heat switches that additionally cool themselves down. They will however not give their heat away by themselves, you have to take it away using other elements. There are 5 types of heat vents that are similar to the heat switches except for the overclocked one as it is new:
Used Variables:
*Tm: max heat
*Tr: reactor heat transfer rate
*Tc: the self cooling rate

The types of switches are as follows:
*The (basic) heat vent that only vents heat it has stored.
**Tm = 1000
**Tr = 0
**Tc = 6

*The advanced heat vent which is again a better version of the basic one.
**Tm = 1000
**Tr = 0
**Tc = 12

*The overclocked heat vent which is the fastest but also gets destroyed pretty fast if it always finds heat.
**Tm = 1000
**Tr = 36
**Tc = 20

*The reactor heat vent takes the heat only out of the reactor again.
**Tm = 1000
**Tr = 5
**Tc = 5

*The component heat vent takes the heat only out of components again.
**Special case: it removes 4 heat from every nearby component each tick and can not store heat.

Conclusion
Uranium can be obtained by mining Uranium Ore. It can be crushed, washed and centrifuged to create Uranium-235 and Uranium-238, which can be further used in nuclear engineering. Most forms of Uranium are radioactive, so in order to safely interact with it you must wear a HAZMAT Suit. A notable exception is the Uranium-238 Block. Uranium is also one of the few resources which cannot be Replicated.

Ore
Uranium naturally generates in the overworld as Uranium Ore.
To mine Uranium Ore you need at least an Iron Pickaxe.
It is found between layers 0 and 64, usually in groups of up to
2 blocks.

Processing
To use Uranium in nuclear fission, we need to increase the concentration of the fissile Uranium-235.
Unfortunately, the only way to do this is to separate the Uranium-235 from the more common (but
less useful) Uranium-238. Exposing natural Uranium to the high powered lasers in a Thermal Centrifuge
should do the trick; however, this will require the ore to be crushed and preferably cleaned.
The second way yields much more uranium!

Uranium-235
Uranium-235 is the more useful part of Uranium ore, however, it only accounts for 2.7-4.25% of natural Minecraftian Uranium (in real life, only about 0.72%). This is the part which sustains the fission chain reaction; it is highly radioactive. Uranium-235, in sufficient quantity, can sustain fission even when being enriched with the common and non-fissile Uranium-238. The result is an even more useful beta-decayed Uranium-238, also known as Plutonium-239.
Uranium-238
Uranium-238 is the most common isotope of Uranium. Uranium-238 alone cannot sustain a nuclear fission chain reaction, which is why it is enriched with Uranium-235.
95.75-97.3% of natural Minecraftian Uranium consists of Uranium-238. The isotope itself is still radioactive, unless bundled into a large form. Our scientists
still cannot explain this phenomenon, but there are a few HAYO-ish rumors involving tiny radioactive-eating bees... Don't ask me.
Enrichment
Our best scientists have come to the conclusion that the magic ratio is 3:54. So,
to enrich the Uranium and prep it for Fuel Rods, put those isotopes together in this formation:

See: Crafting Guide

Now that you have Enriched Uranium Nuclear Fuel, use a Canning Machine to fill an
Empty Fuel Rod. You should end up with a useable Uranium Fuel Rod,
which can be placed directly inside the reactor.
