The Water Mill produces EU by either having a Water Bucket placed in its lower slot, or being surrounded by running or still water.

Recipe
Usage
Place Water Buckets in the lower slot (or place the Water Mill inside water), and optionally an RE Battery in the upper slot. The Water Mill will charge the battery or output power at a rate of 2 EU/t (manned) or 0.010 EU/t per block of adjacent water (unmanned). The maximum output of an unmanned Water Mill is 0.25EU/t (3x3x3 cube of water with the mill in the middle, plus 1 piece of cable to direct the energy = 25 water tiles).

Since Watermills produce such small packets of EU, they should always be connected to a Batbox (or MFE or MFSU) by no more than 1 tin cable to prevent the total loss of the packet.

Note: Water Cells do not work in Water Mills

Water Towers
A Water Mill on its own will produce very little EU if left unmanned, even when completely surrounded in water. So it's better to build compact clusters of them. A 'water tower' is one of many methods.

A water tower is a number of watermills, usually stacked, such that they all feed to the same energy storage device and are surrounded by water. For best results, arrange the tower sections so that there's at least a one block layer of water around each watermill. Below is an example of a horizontal layer of a watermill.

Detailed Mechanics
A Water Mill only uses water that directly surrounds it (a 3x3x3 box with the Water Mill in the center). Each block of water adds roughly 0.010 EU/s to its overall output.

Using the water tower design from above will result in each Water Mill being surrounded by 21 water blocks like so:

21 * 0.010 = 0.21 EU/t from each watermill, meaning roughly 2.3 EU/t from each tower section (11 watermills)

Some notes about the behavior of some Water Mills that were studied:
* Water Mills can 'share' the same water block with seemingly no effect.
* Using flowing water instead of still water had no noticeable effect.
* A Water Mill suspended over water will still react to the water below it even though the watermill is not visibly touching the water.
* Water Mills are not noticeably affected by rainfall.

Dd4235: typo fix

This template is used to create a grid that looks similar to the Crafting Table's GUI screen.
__TOC__
Notes
Items in the grid are set by parameters A1 to C3 in the following formation:

A1,B1,C1
A2,B2,C2
A3,B3,C3

Each item can have a custom image by setting the "-image" parameter

For Example: A2-image would set a custom image for item A2

If this parameter is omitted, the template will attempt to use Grid item.png

For Example: If C2 was "Generator", then the default image would be "Grid Generator.png"

Each item can have a custom link by setting the "-link" parameter

For Example: A2-link would set a custom link for item A2

If this parameter is omitted, the template will attempt to use [ [ item ] ]

For Example: If C2 was "Generator", then the image would try to link to [ [Generator] ]

Usage
;produces:

The OA field accepts 1-99. Leaving it blank will show nothing, using 100 to 109 will only show the last two digits (although this can be utilized to output 01 instead of just 1, for example), using anything higher will only show the last digit.

Base Minecraft items and other mods
If you are using items from outside the Industrial Craft mod, you can use the "-link" parameters to link to an alternate page (typically Non-IC Items).

;produces:

When uploading mod images, the following standard is used:

item name.png -- A 16x16 two dimensional image of the item.
The OV Scanner (Ore Value Scanner) is the improved version of the OD Scanner. This device not only calculates how much ore there is in the scanned area, but outputs its value based on how valuable the ores are. The OV Scanner can also be inserted into a Miner to increase the Miner's mining area from 5x5 to 9x9.

Usage
The OV Scanner is operated by activating it in a Hotbar slot and right clicking with it. The Scanner scans all blocks in a 9x9 square around the player. It evaluates all the blocks below player's position. Every valuable resource block is then added to the total value of the area based upon this chart:

Resource
Copper Ore
2
Tin Ore
2
Gold Ore
3
Redstone Ore
3
Lapis Lazuli Ore
3
Iron Ore
4
Uranium Ore
4
Diamond Ore
5

The values are totaled, and the total ore value in an area is then calculated according to the following formula:

ValueOfArea = 1000*TotalValue/TotalBlocksScanned
, where
TotalValue
is the sum of all the values for the detected resources, and
TotalBlocksScanned
is the total number of blocks below the player. In this case, it is equal to
81*ScanHeight
. The result is rounded down to the nearest integer and output on player's screen.

Recharging
Every usage drains 250 EU, and with the total storage of 10.000 EU, this means that the OV Scanner can be used 40 times before having to be recharged. It can only be recharged in an MFE Transmitter, an MFS Unit, or a Miner. Using the Miner to charge the OV Scanner allows charging without access to tier 2 and 3 EU storage devices. Note that the OV Scanner does not drain the player's BatPack!

First of all, it can be use to tune MFE's to assign a specified power output, different from the standard 32EU/s on. Each click on the button will increase the Output by 1 EU/s.

Upon exceeding the maximum possible Output, which is amazing 64 EU/s, it will jump back to 1.

This is important, because of a currents behavior in the energy net:

Sending HIGHER currents will effectively waste less energy on travel. If you send five times a 10 EUs Current along cable, wasting 4 EU on each send (due to cable length),

you will only receive 30 EU on the end.

If you send a single 50 EUs package, it will loose 4 EU, and end up with 46 on the end.

On the other hand, overpowering machines with to high current can cause wasted energy. If a machine is charged 599/600 and you send 50 EU in, it will be powered, but waste 49 EU.

If you send a continous strem, strong enough to power machines permanently (you can check exact values further down), it will waste (at max!) only a few EU.

Per smelting!

As well, you may click ANY cable, to instantly measure the sum of all currents running through it.

Extremely valuable for determining how to wire stuff up for maximum efficiency.

Rightclicking on nothing / invalid blocks / air will cause to change the measuring timeframe of the EC Manipulator, too make measuring of unsteady or oversteady currents easier.

HAYO for an hayoish Tool!

The ElectricCurrent Manipulator is a two-purpose-device.

First of all, it can be use to tune MFE's to assign a specified power output, different from the standard 30er on.

Basics steps in a new world
Now that you have downloaded and installed the mod and generated a new map, you really don’t know where to begin. Like all other maps you begin in, gather some wood, then some cobblestone and coal and build a little house (or a cave if you wish) for your first night.

Here is mine with some flowers. Having a pretty house is always a plus, even if it’s just for you, and I can easily expand it.
Beware of the mobs if you are not playing in peaceful mode, the creepers can blow up what you built. If you want to, use some torches to light the area.

Keep in mind you will need a lot of room for your industry. Try to get a good spot with a lot of space not too far away, like that sand plain I can see from my roof (you will also need lots of sand for other purposes).
Don’t forget to add some chests and a bed in your little place.

Nothing new here, but you must begin with a good base if you want to go further. The next part will introduce some new things.

First Ingredients and Machines
You now have a little base with four walls, a roof, some chests, a bed, a furnace, and a crafting table, but you want more new stuff. Now, you need to gather rubber. You will need a lot of lumber to build our first machine, and a basic generator: 34 logs precisely. However, you should take more to use as fuel.

Can you smell the fresh air of new toys? Use 5 planks to create a tree tap. You will need 6 tree taps total.

Now, extract rubber from the logs.
I know, 30 planks + 18 logs for just 6 rubber is expensive, but trust me, it will cost less soon.

But for now drop that into a chest, and gather torches, pickaxes and food, for you will have to go to the center of the earth! The second thing you must gather is redstone, that next-to useless red powder you have in astronomical quantity is the base of industrial electricity. Of course, you will need an iron pickaxe to extract it, but you must be really unlucky if you don’t find any on the path. Also, you should mine any copper or tin you see.

Here is a screenshot of a natural cave where you can see all but three types of ores you can gather, from left to right:

*Gold. Its value is much higher in IC, especially in its dust form. It's involved in many mid-tech machines. You should mine it - it will become more useful in the future

*Tin. It is required for many things, but it is fairly common.

*Copper. Like tin, it is required for most things in IC, such as cables, so you must gather a good stock in the beginning. Like tin, there's plenty in the world.

*Iron. Every machine uses iron, so it will be the ore you must hunt the most. You will be always short of iron.

*Coal. It's value was increased, so if you want torches or furnace fuel, use charcoal. Use coal for other, more important things. coal dust is used to build solar panels, Fuel, and lots of things like the nano-suit, in others worlds, you don’t care about coal, in IC, its invaluable.

*Uranium. You will need it to power your future nuclear reactor or to craft a nuke to blow up a mountain. Besides that, they are not involved in other recipes. They are rarer than other ores, but can be found at every layer. You will need an iron pickaxe to gather them.

Further away in the cave:

-redstone: good news, it’s much faster to mine with IC (Alblaka fixed the bug Mojang left) it will not take you ages, like I said in the begin of that part, the redstone is involved in most parts of IC crafting, especially the basic ones. We need some for crafting the first part of a machine, and others things later

-Diamond: ha the diamond, everybody runs after them, try to get 3 of them and keep them in a chest, we will craft something awesome with them. You should know we can craft an industrial diamond with coal, I’ll show you later. There is something else to do with them other than waste them in tools or one-use armor.

-not here but you know it: the lapis-lazuli: involved in the more advanced machines, you need BLOCKS of lapis to craft them, so if you find them now, just keep them until you have need of them

-lava: I know, it’s not a minable resource, but it’s used to power one of the most powerful generators: the geothermal generator, keep in mind where are some lava lakes are to go back to later.

-obsidian: you need some obsidian for more than one reason: to go in the nether, because you will need some glowing dust for mid-tech machines. The obsidian is the only thing that can resist a nuke, keep in mind the nuclear reactor can make a nice hole. And obsidian is a part of crafting an industrial diamond.

You know what you can gather under the surface, continue to collect some resources and go back to your base for the next step.

Now you’re safe at your base, you can smelt some of the ore you gathered from your trip; but be patient and don’t smelt all your ore, soon you will be able to craft an incredible machine: the macerator, which will give you 2 ore dust from one ore and other stuff ill explain later.
So, before you build a macerator you need an extractor and a generator, but to build them, you must craft some Electric circuits, which need some cables, yeah, it seems complicated, and it is, that's why I'm writing a little tutorial just for you.
You must smelt in 3 copper, then 9 others for a total of 12
After that, smelt 9 tin to be able to craft 3 batteries

And you will need 27 iron which you must SMELT AGAIN to create refined iron, which is a base of lot of machines and stuff

You remember the rubber you kept in the chest? Take it, and your copper too, we will create some cables, you see 6 rubbers and 3 copper for 8 cables, later you will need a large amount of them, but remember we must use 34 logs to be able to craft 6 rubber.

And now we will craft our first electric circuit, you need 6 cables, 2 redstone, and one refined iron, like all other things on that page, it’s the base of the industry, so you must remember that recipe because you will repeat it a lot.

And now we must craft the recipe of all machines: the machine (yes, it’s the name of that part).
Just take 8 refined iron and draw a box with them in the craft interface.

FINALLY we can craft our first machine, but we need just 4 more tree taps, take 20 planks and craft them, after that take the 4 tree taps, a machine and an electric circuit and TADA you can plant your extractor where you want, but be careful, you can’t remove any machine by hand, it will be destroyed if you do. You will need a special tool made with a new metal, we will see that later.

Ok, you have your extractor, but how does it work? You need ELECTRCITY, made by a GENERATOR, now you know what we need to make next. There are 2 ways to craft a generator:

First, you can use a Battery, a Machine and a Furnace (8 iron needed) center>

Or, you can use a Battery, 3 refined iron and an iron furnace (10 or 11 iron needed)

As you can see the first one is cheaper, and I recommend you to use that recipe as the 2 are exactly the same. I know you are asking yourself: how do I create a battery and an iron furnace, for the iron furnace we will come back later, and for the battery its now!!

2 cables, 3 tin and 1 Redstone, easy no?

Time to remember that recipe.

But wait! You just used your last cable, it’s time to craft more, but this time we will not waste great quantities of logs. Go back in front of your extractor, and put 6 logs into the upper left hole, and put some redstone into the bottom hole (pure redstone is like a 1 use low-efficient battery but it works), then craft other cables with your rubber, and craft 2 batteries, not more or you will need to craft another cable before being able to build a macerator.
Now we can craft the generator to fill up your batteries. Don't place the generator next to anything, I’ll explain why in the wiring section, and then put your 2 empty batteries in the upper slot and put some (char)coal or other things that burn in the lower slot, you will need 3.5 coal to fill up a single battery, but it is more efficient. You can place a chest just near the generator; it will gather all your filled up batteries.
The empty batteries can stack up to 16, but the filled up ones can’t be stacked; it’s the drawback of the re-usability. With a fully charged battery, power the extractor for more rubber and cables, you must craft 2 more circuits.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, the moment you’ve all been waiting for: the incredible MACERATOR which can double your mining productivity. Craft the 2 electric circuits I asked for, another machine and 3 new stone pickaxes.

Put your ore in the upper slot, and a battery in the bottom one, and wait for 2 dust to magically appear from one ore, then, put that dust in an electric furnace and you will have 2 ingots for one ore. What, you don’t know how to create an electric furnace? It will be our next and final step of this long section.
You must know that the macerator can do more things than create dust from ore, it can create dust from coal too, the coal dust is used in a lot of things, and I recommend you gather 3 or 4 stacks of coal dust as soon as possible. The macerator can make flint out of gravel, it not seem so, but it’s really useful, it can also make cobble from smooth stone, and, incredibly, make SAND out of cobblestone, cool isn’t it?

And Now the electric Furnace, but first you need to craft an iron furnace, the second recipe is here because of a certain mod that overwrites the 1st recipe, but it’s the same thing

The iron furnace is 20% faster than the standard furnace, you will only need 6 coal to heat 60 units instead of the 8 coal for 64 units for the stone furnace, but we can do it faster with the Electric furnace:

I know, it’s another circuit to craft, but I warned you it will be everywhere.
Like the other machine, you put the stuff you want to heat in the upper part, and the battery in the bottom, its 12.5% faster than the iron furnace, and there is no energy waste, if there is nothing, it won’t consume energy.

You have 1 extractor, 1 generator, 1 macerator and 1 electric furnace, it’s not much, and you think you can use more things, and your right, craft 1 more generator, 2 macerators and 2 electric furnace, and all will be faster, don't forget the batteries, 2 is not enough.
You can see the inside of my little home, 3 macerators, 3 electrics furnaces, 1 extractor, 1 generator in view and 2 unknown machines, you can see I’ve put a chest in front of my generator for gather the charged batteries when I stalk outdoor.
Next time we will need lot of batteries and cables for see the basics of wiring.

Basics of Wiring
Now you have a little but fully functional base, that allow you to get twice more ingot for every run you get. But you can’t move any of the machine or you must rebuild it from scrap.
Now we will craft the engi-friend tool: the wrench. But the wrench is not made in iron, it’s made of BRONZE. But I can hear your little voice: but I it’s a new ore I didn’t found? It’s so rare? YOU FOOL, bronze is made from COPPER + TIN.

You need the dust form of those 2 ores, and mix them in a 3:1 ratio (place in the crafting table doesn’t matter)

After that, you have just have just to smelt the bronze powder in a furnace

And TADAA you have a new metal to play with, you can use the recipe to craft all the tools and armor you can build with iron, they are little slower, but they are 30% more durable HAYO.

With all that bronze you can keep your iron for build machines, and now, you know how to craft a wrench (the Y on the right screen, made of 6 bronze ingots).
The use of a wrench is incredibly easy: just right click on the machine you want to remove, be careful, if the machine wasn’t empty you will lose everything it contained. And sometimes you can make a mistake, and you can’t retrieve the machine you craft, its unlucky, but it happen, only 4 machines can be retrieve safely :

MFE transmitter, HV transformer, terraformer and MINERs (we will see them later).

TO BE CONTINUED
