I wanted to improve the information in some of the tables listing fuel types and usage so i created this. I figured i could make it into a tempate and inclue it at the bottom of all reliant articles so that it's easy to update any changes across the wiki. Thinking about makeing another one for EU usage across all the different machines, macerator, extractor, compressor etc... Anyway if you like it create a new template and ill move the data over and update the corresponding articles. Leave a message on my talk page.
Forum post about IC2 Wiring: http://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=497

First, Cables do not act like Redstone, you can not place them diagonally to travel in a stair formation. They must be placed orthogonally.

insert a pic of improper and proper placement of wires here
COMPLETED THE PHOTO just need to upload

Machines will accept power input from all 6 sides.

Generators will output power from all 6 sides <span style="color:#0066FF">(but only from one side at any one time)</span>, however don't cover the top of a Solar Panel for obvious reasons.

Starting simple this is the most basic set up without omitting a BatBox. The max insulated cable length is achieved here. The cable is <span style="color:#0066FF">4</span> blocks long. <span style="color:#0066FF">You lose EU if the current in the cable travels for too long, losing 1 EU upon reaching the 5th block, then another 1 EU for every 5 blocks after that.</span>

This setup will not work as the BatBox is not a splitter, it will accept input from 5 sides at the same time but will only output on the output face marked with dot.

This is a simple buffer, it can be used to store EU

This is a simple 2x solar flower setup with a loop. This will enable you to spread EU around your Factory and not have it bottleneck in any particular spot. Take note the BatBox connecting the generators to the loop.
that way the EU will be evenly distributed around the area. In the center of the solar flower there is a wire, a normal, average wire.(because of advances in the programing of the wires they now allow to be connected upto 6 sides simultaneously opposed to the 3 side max in IC.)

Now for something more advanced, the MFE. This is an example of an improper setup of an MFE before I place the 2 wires in the second picture

and after I placed the 2 wires above the HVT

this caused a loop of power to be sent from the top of the MFE(output) back into the batBox hence killing the setup.(and wasting the wire because it couldnt handle the power and just melted)
To properly use a MFE, you need to use a [[LV_Transformer|Low Voltage Transformer. the MFE is used to scale the voltage up and the Low voltage transformer to scale it back down. Quite similar to real life and your local power grid.doing this increases the range of the power but needs a better Cable. The energy loss is less because you are sending less packets that are larger, they still lose EU over the cable but you lose less.

Next is series of machines, and current splitting. You can have you machines in a row and power them from one MFE the excess is sent back to the MFE and stored. I this setup I have the maximum cable length without loss (to prevent continuous loss of power) and the measurements listed are from right to left and the last one receiving 0 EU. the Eu splits evenly between each machine as it acts like a cable end.

and this is with an MFE output of 50EUs

as you can see it is useless to make lines of machines any longer than 5 and 4 would be optimal as the last 2 would receive 8/2 = 4 EU each, which will power most common machines easily. You could use the 50 EU output if you wanted to power say 4 crystal chargers in a row.

You can then save space and stack your machines in a feasible 3x4 array like so.

and the back to power them

Next up is Miners and making them do what you want them to. I the first setup I have a solar flower powering a MFE => HVT => HVT => Miner. This is a one way operation, but the miner can only accept so much EU at a time therefore the 2000 EU sent towards the miner will sometimes be rejected and get sent back. causing loss each way. This can happen as often as once each frame causing massive power loss.

A better way to do it is using Switch Cables. these accept input on all sides but the bottom, (which is the output). However if you apply Redstone current it will make the top output and the bottom input. This can be used as a switch before sending Eu from the MFE =>HVT. This way you can shut the whole operation down and let the MFEs charge up.

The miner can be set up to automate with water streams as well. however I use Feanorith's Mine Factory Mod that lets you build a conveyor. This is easier then digging trenches and placing water buckets. It also can travel ridiculously long lengths, and never have to dig one block down. This is similar to water running on iceblocks (if you can craft em)

Take note that I have all but one of the 5 available sides of the miner covered as to direct the item toward the conveyor, and a small 3 long wall to stop the items from being shot over the conveyor.
Nuclear Physics 101
Welcome, to the Industrial Craft School of Nuclear-arity!<br>
Here, we shall give some tips and tricks to avoid turning your new home into a melting slag heap!

Step 1: Finding Uranium Ore
There is no easy way to find Uranium Ore short of mining, mining, mining. It appears randomly in very small veins, and has been seen on the surface at sea level. It also appears rarely in the walls of caverns. It must be mined with an Iron or better Pickaxe, and will drop 1&times;Uranium for every 1&times;Ore that is successfully mined.

Step 2: My First Reactor(tm)
The Chernobyl-2 Nuclear Reactor is expensive to build, relying as it does on hard-to-obtain elements like Glowstone and energy-intensive materials like Advanced Alloy Plates. Don't expect to build one in your first week.

Step 3: Finding Your 3-Mile Island
Siting your Nuclear Reactor is crucial! While it can be removed using a Wrench, the possibility of destroying your precious machine in the process makes this a risky proposition. Ideally you'll have a lake or ocean nearby; the Chernobyl-2 works best (and safest) when surrounded by a 3&times;3 cube of water.

If you don't have v8.00 or higher, you have to use sand or gravel initially to allow you to connect Cable underwater; remember that once placed, a cable is unaffected by water. In v8.00, cables can be placed underwater.

Step 4: Heavy Water
In SMP environs, you may wish to site your reactor somewhere more... secluded. Building a Reactor Containment Vessel will be essential, nothing less than Obsidian, or Reinforced Stone should be used in the construction. Using buckets to place water as you build should allow you to create the necessary cube of water surrounding your Reactor. Use a Reinforced Stone Door for access. Ensure that there is sufficient blast shielding to minimize destruction of property in the case of an accident!

Step 5: The Green Glow
Ok, so now you've got a Reactor suspended in water, with or without cables attached. You've got at least one piece of Uranium Ore. Congratulations, <small>world domination</small> your nuclear future awaits! Right-click on your Reactor to open up the GUI, and place your Uranium Ore into the top slot of the Reactor, and see the Reactor power up as if by magic! Refining Uranium Ore takes a long time, though, so come back in a day or so after loading.

Step 6: Bars of Plenty
Once the refinement process concludes, you will see that your Ore has been transformed, into not 1, not 2, but 4 shiny new Uranium Fuel Ingots!! These are the only source of power generation in a Reactor <small>and should never be mixed with Explosives in an attempt to make Nuclear Weapons!</small> <br>Allow your Reactor to process all your remaining Uranium Ore into Ingots.

Step 7: The Soothing Hum of Power
Whenever your Reactor is not refining Ore, you can of course use it to generate Nuclear Power by placing 1 or more Uranium Fuel Ingots into the bottom slot of the Reactor. Each Ingot will provide a staggering 40,000EU of Energy, and your Reactor outputs a massive 20EU/s! That's equivalent to 4 coal-burning Generators- AT ONCE!!

Step 8: Holy Fukushima! <small>(with apologies to the easily offended!)</small>
If the proper precautions are taken, a Nuclear explosion can be mostly contained and the damage sustained minimal. In the wrong situation though, a Nuclear disaster can leave you with a pretty impressive hole in the ground where your prized workshop used to be. ALWAYS ensure your reactor has at least 1 square of water surrounding it in every possible direction, and screen it with Obsidian or Reinforced Stone for maximum protection.

The Cables are the primary means of transferring EU from one device to another. There are several different tiers of cables, depending on how much current they can tolerate. If too much current is applied to a cable, it will instantly melt. Different tiers are made out of different metals. Furthermore, all cables suffer from distance-related energy losses - long cables will inevitably lose energy in the process of transferring it. There are several ways to offset it - Transformers and insulation. For higher-tier cables, the insulation also reduces the amount of shock damage the player and NPC's receive from touching the cable under high voltage.

Cables can also be painted using the Painter. This separates them, preventing cables of different colors from interacting with each other. This also greatly reduces the strain on CPU, as large cable meshes with many intersections require the game to peform many CPU-heavy calculations.

Cable types
Copper Cable
{{Grid/Crafting Table
|A1=Rubber|B1=Uninsulated_Copper_Cable

Copper cables are the cheapest, and the most basic cable tier. They are only capable of handling Low Voltage (up to 32 EU/s), however, they suffer the smallest distance-related energy losses out of all the conventional cables, with insulated copper cables having even less energy losses.

Other cable types
There are 3 additional cable tiers:

* Tier 0: Ultra-Low-Current Cable: data is unknown, and the icon is purple with a red stripe. may not yet be implemented.
* Tier 2: Gold Cable: can handle up to 128 EU/s, higher energy loss than Copper Cables.
* Tier 3: HV Cable: can handle up to 2048 EU/s, very high energy loss.
* Tier extra: Glass Fibre Cable: can handle up to 512 EU/s, very low energy loss.

Cable Efficiency
All cables suffer distance-related energy losses, and depending on the tier and insulation of the given cable, the losses can vary greatly. The general unit for cable efficiency is EU/block. It shows how much EU the given cable loses per block. The number is accumulated along the whole length of the cable, and then rounded down to the nearest integer.

Cable Splitting
Up to 6 cables can connect to one other cable. Current will only flow through a cable when requested by a consumer if the loss from the cable length will allow some energy to get to the consumer. i.e. a batbox (32UE) will send across insulated copper to a furnace up to 155 blocks away (5x31). No energy will be sent to a furnace 156 blocks away.
